QR codes are not only used in the world of advertising and marketing, but also in the airline industry. This goes to show that QR codes truly don’t have limitations when it comes to what they can be used for. When used in this industry, they can be used to book flights, know timetables of flights, get more information about an airport etc.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reservation codes which are 2 character codes made to identify airlines for commercial purposes which includes tickets, air waybills, tariffs, timetables and reservations. These codes come in three different types:
- Controlled Duplicate
QR codes are 2D codes that have been embedded with massive amount of information used for different purposes. In airlines, these codes are used to store information that can be used to get tickets, know the timetable of different flights, and make flight reservations among other things.
One of the many things that has made these two dimensional codes popular is their flexibility, in that they can be used to store just about anything. These codes are much like UPCs. The only difference is that they are used on a broader scale.
Airline QR code-Using QR codes
As earlier mentioned, QR codes are used for several different things in airlines. Generally, they are used to store different information. For example, assume you are at the airport and come across a store and you wish to know more about a specific product without asking the store attendants.
In such a scenario, you simply take out your smartphone, scan the QR code on the product’s label (assuming there is one), and you will be able to get all the information you need about that specific product. QR codes have also been used on to track shipments, cargo and even on tickets.
How not to use these codes
The purpose of QR codes is to give you easy access to a company’s website or to give you more information on a business or product. It makes no sense to include a QR code as part of the ‘contact’ section of a website simply because the person browsing is already there. You can instead include QR codes in social media site profiles.
One thing people should always know is that QR codes will work to your benefit if you use them correctly. You do not have to own a successful online company for them to work, all you need to do is identify your target market, know where they can be found and the right way to get them to scan the QR code.
